Victoria Carpet Installation and Fitting

Since its introduction to the housing market in the mid-1900s, carpet has become a mainstay in home flooring.  It brings a warm, soft feel to any room (both literally and metaphorically), and it can last for over a decade if properly cared for.

Carpet is also one of the most difficult types of flooring for a DIYer to install.  Carpet installation requires specialized tools, and the carpet must be cut and stretched just right to keep it from bunching or tearing after installation.  For these reasons and several others, we strongly recommend having a professional fit and install your new carpet floors.

At
Tiling Victoria, we offer all types of flooring installation in Victoria, BC.  Our Carpeting Victoria division provides a wide range of services, including carpet installation, carpet stretching, commercial carpeting, and much more.  Check out some of our recent carpet installation reviews, then give us a call when you are ready for carpet installation in your home or business!

Why Choose Carpet

With so many flooring options to choose from, you might be wondering what the advantages of carpet are.  While it is not ideal for every room or every lifestyle, carpet remains a popular choice in both homes and businesses. Here are just a few great reasons to choose carpet:

  • Warm rooms that feel like home - As we mentioned above, carpet gives a room a warm and inviting atmosphere.  It doesn’t just make a room feel cozy, however - carpet also helps insulate your home!  If your bedroom gets a little chilly in the winter, carpet can help keep the cold out and the heat in.  Carpet also acts as a sound barrier, dampening everything from footsteps to your noisy downstairs neighbors!

  • Safe spaces for work and play - If you have young children, carpet is the perfect flooring product for their bedrooms and playrooms.  It is naturally slip-resistant, and it provides a little bit of cushion when they fall.  Adults may not fall as often as toddlers do, but they can benefit from the safety of carpet also.  The elderly are less likely to fall in a carpeted home, and even dropped objects are less likely to break when dropped on carpet as compared to other flooring types.

  • The perfect style for every taste - Carpet comes in virtually any color, pattern, and texture you could want.  While hardwood floors really only have one “look”, carpet styles can be as varied as the homes and businesses they are installed in.  Want a purple floor in your craft room?  Or a bright, modern design for the entryway to your office?  Carpet can make these (and many, many other) flooring design ideas a reality.

Affordable and easy to maintain flooring - Compared to options like hardwood or vinyl, carpet is much less expensive (even with professional installation).  Carpet is also fairly easy to maintain.  Cleaning carpets is as simple as running a vacuum over them, and even this task can now be largely entrusted to a robotic vacuum.  If you suffer from allergies, you may have been told that you can never keep your carpet clean enough.  However, recent studies have shown that carpet can actually reduce airborne allergens in a home.  As long as you vacuum regularly, carpet can actually be good for your health!

Our Installation Process

Are you ready to install carpet in your home or business in Victoria, BC?  You could scour the internet for helpful carpet installer articles, or you could let the experts at Carpeting Victoria make your installation fast and stress-free.  Whether you choose discount carpet or high-end luxury carpet, a professional carpet installation will ensure that your carpet looks and feels great for many years.

The first step in a great installation is proper preparation.  The old flooring must be removed, and the subfloor must be cleaned, repaired, and leveled.  Depending on the type of flooring you are replacing, your baseboards may need to be removed as well.

Once the subfloor is clean and smooth, tackstrips will be installed.  If you are replacing existing carpet with new carpet, many of the old tackstrips may be able to be reused.  In this situation, we will check every strip to be sure it is properly positioned and strong enough to hold your new carpet in place.

Next we will cut and install padding.  We take precise measurements to ensure that there are no gaps in your padding and that seams are properly situated.  Then, depending on the type of subfloor you have, the cut padding will either be stapled or glued in place.

Now it is time to unroll the carpet.  But before it goes into a room, it must be precisely cut.  Exact measurements are one of the most important parts of installing carpet - one wrong cut, and you will either waste a good deal of carpet or have seams in awkward places.

Cut carpet is finally ready to be brought into the room where it will be installed.  We will lay out the carpet, seam it together as needed, then anchor it to the tack strips along one wall.  The carpet will then be stretched to the proper tension and secured to the rest of the tack strips in the room.

If you have wall-to-wall carpet in your space, congratulations!  Your installation is complete!  Most homes and businesses have tile, hardwood, or another type of flooring in some areas, however.  This means there is one last step - installing transitions.  Before we leave the job site, we will seal and secure the edges of your new carpet so that the places where two flooring styles meet are safe and look great.

After a professional installation, your carpet will last for at least a decade with only basic routine cleaning from you.  If you have any questions after installation, we are always available to answer them and address any problems or concerns you have.
