Victoria Customized Flooring

When many people think of flooring, they think only of the standard flooring types: carpet, ceramic tile, hardwood, etc.  While these floor coverings are the most common choices in both homes and businesses for a variety of reasons, there is nothing keeping you from choosing a more unique floor for your home or office.

At
Tiling Victoria Floorex, we have installed many types of customized flooring in Victoria, BC.  We are also always up for a challenge!  Most of our custom flooring projects have begun as an idea that one of our clients had.  While we have eventually had to reject a few ideas that were impractical or unachievable, we are always happy to discuss any idea you might have.  If you can dream it, don’t hesitate to ask us about it.  If it is possible, we will make it happen!

We also understand that not everyone is great at coming up with innovative design ideas.  If you’re looking to do something different with your floor but aren’t sure where to start, here are a few ideas to get your imagination going.

What Customized Flooring Do We Offer?

Cork

While a wine bottle might be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of cork, it actually makes great flooring also.  Cork floors have several benefits that more common flooring types don’t.  Cork is naturally antimicrobial and fire resistant, and it also provides a good deal of soundproofing.  It can be sustainably harvested (cork trees regrow their harvested bark in approximately nine years), and it is easy to replace a small section of the floor if it gets damaged.

Cork floors provide much of the warmth and cushion that carpet does, but they can be cleaned much like hardwood floors.  And if you are worried about your entire kitchen looking like a wine bottle stopper, don’t!  Cork comes in a variety of colors, grains, and patterns - some even look like wood or stone.  If you are looking for a comfortable, sustainable, and durable flooring choice for any room in your house, cork is a great option!

Reclaimed Wood

Are your grandparents tearing down the old barn you used to play in as a child?  Why not incorporate those memories into a new floor for your living room or office?  Even if you don’t have your own source of reclaimed wood, many retailers are starting to stock recycled planks.  Reclaimed wood is obviously very environmentally friendly - no new trees were cut down and no heavy machinery was needed to create your flooring.

The biggest benefit of reclaimed wood is its appearance, however.  In addition to being truly unique, your floors will have a rustic look that simply cannot be replicated by machines in a factory.  The same past that gives your floor its character also ensures its quality - the planks you are laying on your floor have already proven that they can stand the tests of time and use.  If you want a rural feel even in the heart of the city, a custom reclaimed wood floor might be the perfect choice!

Brick

While brick might be a logical choice for paving a patio or other outdoor area, many people never think of putting it inside their homes or businesses.  Brick gives a unique look to an entryway or den (especially near a fireplace), and it can be much less expensive than other flooring options.  It does have its downsides (it’s cold, hard, and not very moisture-resistant), but its durability is unmatched.

If you like the look of brick but laying a real brick floor would be impractical, you still have several options.  Brick-look floor tiles are growing in popularity, giving you the look of brick without the disadvantages of real brick.  You can even simulate the look of brick with painted scraps of wood!  There are many ways to achieve a brick-like appearance on your floor - call us to discuss the options and decide on one that fits your needs.

Tile

We know.  We listed tile as a common flooring choice at the beginning of this article.  But there are many tile options that go beyond the standard 12x12 ceramic tiles that most people have in their kitchens and bathrooms.  Tiles can be purchased or fabricated from a wide variety of stones, including slate, marble, and even recycled glass.  If you are looking for bold colors and patterns, the design options are almost infinite.

Instead of installing square beige tiles in your bathroom, why not choose a colorful assortment of hand-painted tiles?  If you enjoy intricate lines and symmetry, Moroccan mosaic tiles come in any size and color you want.  Floor tile can give a room the appearance of a 1920’s mansion, a patchwork quilt, or the floor of the ocean.  There are no limits to what you can do with tile - if you can think beyond “normal” floor tile, we can help you create a truly one-of-a-kind floor.

Rubber

Let’s start by making it clear that we don’t recommend putting rubber flooring in your entire house (though if you really want to, we’ll be happy to help).  Rubber flooring can be quite beneficial in certain situations, however.  If you have a home gym, a rubber floor will absorb the impact of both your feet and your weights.  Music studios with rubber floors are quieter, and homes with elderly residents or young children might enjoy a soft-but-slip-resistant entryway or bathroom.

Rubber is environmentally friendly since it is both renewable and recyclable.  It is incredibly durable, easy to clean, and comfortable to stand on for long periods of time, making it ideal for many commercial environments.  And while it might sound like it would be unattractive, rubber flooring comes in many colors and patterns.  It will never be as elegant as a solid hardwood floor, but it can give a room a unique look while increasing the room’s functionality.  If you need a durable and low-maintenance flooring option that is also comfortable and sustainable, call us today to see if a rubber floor might be the answer!
